Apply for a free Clinician account

If you're a licensed SLP, OT, or AT specialist, you don't need to pay to use SpeakAnyWay with the families on your caseload. SpeakAnyWay for Clinicians is a free account with premium features unlocked, raised limits, and monthly AI credits. You apply once, a person reviews it, and that's the whole process. This page covers what you get, how to apply, and what to expect while you wait.

What you'll need

  • A license or certification number — we use it to verify eligibility and nothing else.
  • Where you practice: school, clinic, or private practice.
  • About two minutes. You don't need an existing account; the form makes one.

Apply

Go to /clinicians/apply and fill in the form near the middle of the page.

  1. If you're signed out, the form starts with Create your free account — email and password, right on the same form. One submit creates the account and files the application. If you already have a SpeakAnyWay account, choose Sign in instead and the account fields disappear.
  2. Enter your Full name, pick your Credential (SLP, OT, AT specialist, or Other), and add your License or certification number and Where you practice.
  3. Submit. You'll see Your application is under review, and a confirmation email lands in your inbox.

Your free account works immediately — you can build boards while the review is running. Approval is what unlocks premium features and raises your limits.

Tip: If you have an evaluation on the calendar and a few days is too slow, email hello@speakanyway.com and say so. That's what the note under the submit button is there for.

What's on the Clinician plan

Once you're approved, the account carries:

WhatHow much
Boards100
Communicator slots2
Sandbox communicators2
AI credits400 a month

Communicator slots are the ones that matter. A communicator is a real account with its own sign-in, its own boards, and its own team. You build it, mark it as a loaner, and send a claim link. When the family claims it, ownership transfers to them — boards, voice, settings and all — and your slot comes back to your pool. Two slots recycle a long way across a school year. After the hand-off you stay on the team as a supervisor, so you can keep helping with boards without administering the account forever. The details are in Lend or claim a communicator.

Sandbox communicators are separate from those two. No sign-in, capped to a few boards — for showing someone how it works without setting up a real account.

MySpeak pages, QR codes, printable ID and care cards, and communication teams (the teacher, the aide, the grandparent, each with their own sign-in to the same communicator) are all included.

What to expect

Review takes a few days, and a person does it. You'll get an email when there's a decision — you don't need to check back or re-apply.

One application at a time. If you submit again while one is pending, you'll get "You already have a clinician application under review" instead of a duplicate. If an application is denied, you can apply again.

Clinician isn't Pro. It's shaped like Basic — 100 boards, not Pro's 300 — with premium features unlocked and a small slot cap. The free Clinician account is for evaluating SpeakAnyWay and seeding a couple of families; a full working caseload is what Pro and the school license are for.

Boards over the limit go read-only, not deleted. This is the one behavior that surprises people, because most paid plans don't work this way. If you pass 100 boards, your most recently updated boards (favorites first) stay editable and the rest lock to view-only. Nothing is lost — trim or archive and they come back.

Credits refresh monthly. 400 a month, for generating symbols and starter boards from a word list. Building and editing boards by hand costs nothing. See AI credits and what each feature costs.

Common questions

  • Do I have to enter a credit card? No. There's no card, no trial clock, and nothing expires. It's a granted plan, not a discount.
  • Can I use it before I'm approved? Yes. The account you create on the form is a working free account from the moment you submit. Approval raises its limits; it doesn't switch anything on for the first time.
  • What if I'm a teacher or a paraprofessional, not a licensed clinician? The plan is built for SLPs, OTs, and AT specialists, but you can still apply — pick Other, tell us where you work, and we'll take a look. If it isn't a fit, the regular plans are on the pricing page. Setting up a whole school or district? Email hello@speakanyway.com.
  • What happens to my license number? We use it to verify that you're eligible and nothing else. We don't share it.
  • My application was denied — now what? Write to hello@speakanyway.com. Usually it means we couldn't confirm the credentials from what was entered, and a second look sorts it out. You can also submit a fresh application.
  • I need more than 2 slots. Pro includes 5 and can add more. For a caseload-sized roster or a district, email hello@speakanyway.com — that's a different conversation than the plan page.
