About this blog
Hi, I'm Brittany — the mom behind SpeakAnyWay
My adventure into building an AAC app began out of necessity and love, when I realized how hard it was for my son — who is on the autism spectrum — to just tell us what he needed or felt. The available tools? Way too expensive and too complicated for something that should be simple and accessible.
With a background in software engineering, I rolled up my sleeves and built the app I wished we'd had: something families like mine could actually use, without breaking the bank. I wanted a tool that felt more like a friend than a piece of technology. That's how SpeakAnyWay was born — from a mom's desire to help her child speak his way.
Today I'm a mom of two nonspeaking, AAC-using boys, and this blog is where I share what our family has learned along the way — in plain English, for the families, SLPs, and educators walking the same road. No one should have to pay a premium to communicate, and no one should have to figure this out alone.
Our editorial policy
We want to be upfront about how these posts get made, because you deserve to know who — and what — is behind the words:
- Drafts are AI-assisted. We use modern AI tools to help research and draft posts. We think honesty beats pretending otherwise.
- Every post is reviewed and approved by Brittany before it publishes. Nothing goes live on autopilot.
- Factual claims are source-checked. When a post leans on research, we link the sources at the bottom so you can read them yourself.
- Nothing here is medical advice. What you'll find is lived experience and research — your SLP knows your child.
